U of M Extension is organizing the second annual Small Farm and Rural Living Expo at the Scott County Fairgrounds in Jordan, MN. The Expo will run from 8:00 - 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 12th. As Education Director for Minnesota Farmers Union, I would like to invite you to a Farmer Forestry Field Day. The theme "Managing Your Woods For A Profit" will be the theme for the September 29 workshop. The workshop is sponsored by the Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU), Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and National Farmers Union (NFU).
The workshop, at the Yo-Hawn's Bar & Grill, Grygla, Minnesota, will include presentations on managing profitable woodlots, carbon credits and forestry offsets, benefits of landowner cooperation, as well as a woodlot tour.
There are more than 16.5 million acres of forested land in Minnesota, including more than 5.9 million privately owned acres. This workshop is designed to help those landowners improve and develop plans for gaining income from their forested land.
Well managed woodlots include measures such as intentionally growing trees and shrubs with growing crops and livestock. In addition, a well-managed agroforestry system improves soil and water quality, provides wildlife habitat, and reaps economic benefits for the land owner.

Steele County Farmers Union and Steele County Farm Bureau will be hosting an ag policy forum for the endorsed candidates in the Senate District 26 rate. MFU will be holding a listening session and issues forum on Monday, January 25, at 10 a.m. at the Sandhill Supper Club in Fertile. Everyone is invited to attend.

The day usually ends about 3 p.m. This is a great opportunity for MFU members to connect with their legislators and also help MFU make our presence felt at the capitol.
