SUMMARY:Dakota County Farmers Union Convention
DESCRIPTION:The Dakota County Farmers Union Convention is 6:30 p.m. July 31 at the Dakota County Library\, 14395 S. Robert Trail\, Rosemount. \nAs a grassroots policy organization\, annual county conventions (aka annual business meetings) are the building blocks of MFU policy. It is the participation of members\, through attending and bringing forth resolutions\, that gives Farmers Union a strong voice in St. Paul and Washington\, D.C. \nThe meeting will include election of officers and election of delegates to the state convention. There may also be guest speakers. See your July issue of the member magazine for a one-page convention guide. \nContact Linda Larson for more information about the Dakota County annual business meeting.

SUMMARY:The USDA Ag Census-- Minnesota Shines!
DESCRIPTION:Zoom In with MFU’s Ariel Kagan: “The USDA Ag Census– Minnesota Shines!” \nThe Census of Agriculture was released earlier this year\, and the headlines reflected the well-known but unfortunate trends in U.S. agriculture – we continue to lose farmers and farmland\, and of those remaining\, the farms are getting bigger and bigger. \nBut there’s also some good news in the Ag Census\, especially for Minnesotans. Bucking the national trend\, Minnesota has more farmers in 2022 than we did in 2017\, and a significant number of those farmers are women\, people of color\, and new or beginning farmers. \nThe Census of Agriculture\, conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) every five years\, works to be a complete count of U.S. farms and ranches\, and the crops and livestock they produce. Like the U.S. population census\, the Ag Census relies on survey responses from producers\, but also uses statistical models to account for under coverage and nonresponses. With data going back to 1840\, the ag census helps us see trends and understand what’s happening on our working lands across the nation. \nLearn more during this Zoom\, hosted by Dakota County Farmers Union. \nWhen: 7 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.\, April 4. The Zoom opens at 6:45 p.m.\, so join early. \nWhere: Zoom \nFor more information: Contact Linda Larson for Zoom login information.
