Basic livestock vet skills clinic

If you’re a livestock farmer who wants to learn the basic vet skills needed to provide sustainable care for your livestock, join The Wifery Livestock Skills Consortium from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at Burning Daylight Draft Farm, 37272 20th Ave., Dennison.
You will receive both textbook and hands-on training, as well the equipment needed to perform these skills:
- Basic anatomy and health stats
- Taking vitals
- Giving shots (IM, SQ, IV)
- Administering boluses, tubing
- Dressing wounds, lancing abscesses
- Suturing & stapling wounds
- Setting a leg
- Multiple solutions: certified organic to pharmaceuticals
Cost is $50 per attendee. Enrollment is limited to 20 people. You will receive training and a vet kit with $100+ worth of the needed equipment and supplies to perform the skills.

Tips for a successful workshop
- Wear clean clothes and shoes for biosecurity purposes
- Dress appropriately to handle livestock
- Bring your own food for the day; Rice County Farmers Union will provide beverages
- A port-a-potty and handwashing station are available on the farm
- Optional: bring a laptop if you have one (don’t forget your power cord)
