Farmers Union congratulates new state FSA director

ST. PAUL – Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) congratulates Whitney Place, who was today named executive director of the Farm Service Agency in Minnesota by the Biden-Harris administration.

“We’ve worked with Whitney for years on issues that are important to Minnesota farm families,” said MFU President Gary Wertish. “Whitney worked hard on establishing Minnesota’s Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program that has now enrolled more than 800,000 acres and she was also instrumental in furthering Minnesota’s industrial hemp program. We wish her much success in her new role and look forward to continuing our strong working relationship.”

Place joined the Minnesota Department of Agriculture in 2012. She’s worked in a variety of roles, including legislative affairs director, commissioner’s assistant and most recently, assistant commissioner, where she oversaw the Pesticide and Fertilizer Management Division, the Plant Protection Division and Laboratory Services. Place grew up in Okabena, Minn.
