Green Ammonia Summit is Dec. 10 in Morris

MORRIS, Minn. – The Green Ammonia Summit 2024 is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 10 at the University of Minnesota Morris, 600 E. 4th St., Morris. The summit will bring together leaders from agriculture, energy, government and business to explore the potential of green ammonia as a tool for decarbonization, rural development and sustainable agriculture.

“Fossil fuel derived nitrogen fertilizer accounts for up to 2 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and contributes up to 35 percent of the carbon footprint of corn,” said Ariel Kagan, Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) Climate and Working Lands Program Director. “The fertilizer industry is also heavily concentrated, with just four companies controlling over three quarters of the market share. Regionally produced green ammonia offers the possibility of decarbonizing the agricultural sector while creating more competitive markets for farm inputs.”

Green ammonia is produced using renewable energy sources and it significantly reduces the greenhouse gas emissions associated with nitrogen fertilizer use.

Featured Summit speakers include:

  • Pete Wyckoff, Deputy Commissioner, Minnesota Department of Commerce
  • Rep. Paul Anderson, incoming co-chair of the Minnesota House Agriculture Finance and Policy Committee
  • Courtney Hall, Senior Director of Sustainability, CHS
  • Sen. Aric Putnam, Chair of the Senate Agriculture, Broadband and Rural Development Committee
  • Elizabeth Burns-Thompson, Vice President of External Affairs, Landus Ag Cooperative

Former North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp is the featured speaker at an evening banquet the night before the summit.

Tickets for the Summit and the evening banquet are still available. Register and find a full agenda at www.greenammoniasummit.org,
